Local Attractions and Tours

Please note that these are optional tours that you must book yourself for Sunday if you wish to participate. All websites and activities have their own associated fees that members will have to purchase themselves.

 

Bay Area chartered tours

 

Napa Valley Bus Tour

  • All day wine tasting tour for $199.00 USD, not including wine tasting fees
  • Includes a stop at the Golden Gate Bridge
  • Pick up will be from the San Francisco Ferry Building. You will have to take BART into San Francisco and stop at the Embarcadero BART station, from which the Ferry Building is just a short walk.

 

Muir Woods & Sonoma Tour

  • All day hiking and wine tasting tour for $99.00 USD, does not include the $10 entrance fee to Muir Woods
  • Includes a photo opportunity of the Golden Gate Bridge
  • Pick up will be from Parc 55 Hotel in San Francisco (right outside of the Powell Street BART station).

 

Half-Day San Francisco City Tour

  • Morning (8am-1pm) and Afternoon (1pm-6pm) city tours for $70.00 USD
  • Stops include: Golden Gate Park, Fisherman’s Wharf, The Cliff House, North Beach, Chinatown, The Marina, Nob Hill, The Presidio, Union Square, Victorian Houses, The Civic Center, Pacific Heights, The Haight Ashbury, Twin Peaks, and of course, the world famous Golden Gate Bridge
  • Pick up will be from Parc 55 Hotel in San Francisco (right outside of the Powell Street BART station).

 

Berkeley self-guided tours and other attractions

 

Tilden Regional Park

  • Over 2,000 acres of land and wildlife atop the Berkeley hills boasting beautiful views of the entire Bay Area
  • Attractions include the Botanic Garden and the Little Farm
  • Free Admission
  • To get to Tilden on public transportation (during the weekends), take AC Transit #67 from the Downtown Berkeley BART station into the park at Canon Drive, along Central Park Drive and Wildcat Canyon Road, and exit the park at Shasta Road. This route provides access to all the major attractions and several trailheads in Tilden Regional Park. Buses run every 30 minutes. On weekdays #67 operates only to the Canon Drive and Shasta Road entrances.

 

UC Botanical Garden

  • The 34-acre UC Botanical Garden was established in 1890 and is home to one of the most diverse landscapes in the world, with over 10,000 types of plants including many rare and endangered species.
  • The Garden features 9 regions of naturalistic plantings from Italy to South Africa, along with a major collection of California native plants.
  • Admission Fee: $12.00 USD, $10.00 USD for seniors (65+)
  • To get to the Garden, you can take the Bear Transit Hill Line shuttle from Evans Hall (Hearst Mining Circle side just a short 5 minute walk from Doe Library) and the second stop is the UC Botanical Garden. You can take the same shuttle back to Evans Hall.

 

UC Berkeley Campus Tours

  • You can take a free 1.5 hour walking tour of the UC Berkeley campus with a trained student ambassador who can answer all of your questions. You’ll learn about some of our most beloved history and traditions of the campus.
  • The tours usually start at 10 a.m. every day.

 

San Francisco self-guided tours and other attractions

(You may want to take public transportation listed under the attraction or a taxi or other ride-sharing service.)

 

Pier 39

  • Check out San Francisco’s famous Pier 39, and try some local clam chowder or watch the sea lions at play
  • You can also book a 2.5 hour Whale Watching Tour that leaves from Pier 39. Fees are $45.00 USD.
  • You can take BART into San Francisco and get off at the Embarcadero stop. Exit the Embarcadero BART station and take the F Market & Wharves Muni above ground train from the Market St. at Main St. stop to Pier 39 (Embarcadero at Stockton St. stop). SFMTA Muni trains and buses will cost $2.75 in cash and you should be prepared to have exact change.

 

Golden Gate Bridge

  • The more than 4,000 ft. (1,280 meters) suspension bridge, which opened in 1937, is famous for its orange color and beauty welcoming you into the San Francisco Bay from the Pacific Ocean.
  • Free entry to walk along the east side of the bridge overlooking the bay.
  • You can take BART into San Francisco and get off at Civic Center / UN Plaza stop. Exit the BART station and walk to 7th St. and Market St. to catch the 30 SFMTA Muni bus to the Golden Gate Bridge Toll Plaza. The fare will cost $2.75 in cash and you should be prepared to have exact change. From the toll plaza you can walk to the visitor center and across the Golden Gate Bridge at no cost.

 

San Francisco Museum of Modern Art (SFMOMA)

  • SFMOMA has seven floors, which include not only incredible collections of modern art, but its own library and archives, a theater, and even a living wall as the backdrop to a sculpture garden.
  • Admission fee: $25.00 USD, $22 USD.00 for seniors (65+)
  • Please note the museum is closed on Wednesdays
  • You can take BART into San Francisco and stop at Montgomery Street BART Station. The museum is located a block away at 151 Third Street.

 

Asian Art Museum

  • The mission of the Asian Art Museum of San Francisco is to lead a diverse global audience in discovering the unique material, aesthetic, and intellectual achievements of Asian art and culture.
  • Admission fee: $15.00 USD, $10.00 USD for seniors (65+)
  • Please note the museum is closed on Mondays
  • You can take the BART into San Francisco and stop at the Civic Center / UN Plaza BART Station. Head toward the left onto Grove St. as you exit the station. Walk a block up Grove St. and take a right onto Larkin St. The museum will be on your right about half a block up the street.

 

California Academy of Sciences

  • Visit an aquarium, planetarium, and natural history museum—all under one living roof.
  • Admission fee: $35.95 USD, $30.95 USD for seniors (65+)
  • You can take the BART into San Francisco and stop at the Civic Center / UN Plaza BART Station. You will then need to transfer to the N Judah Muni lightrail transit system, which requires a Muni ticket. Take the N Judah line to 9th and Irving and walk north on 9th Avenue into the Golden Gate Park. Continue north on Martin Luther King Jr Drive and take a right on Music Concourse Drive to the California Academy of Sciences building on your right.

 

de Young Museum

  • The museum showcases collections of American art from the 17th to the 20th centuries, textile arts, and art of Africa, Oceania, and the Americas.
  • Admission fee: $15.00 USD, $10.00 USD for seniors (65+)
  • You can take the BART into San Francisco and stop at the Civic Center / UN Plaza BART Station. You will then need to transfer to the N Judah Muni lightrail transit system, which requires a Muni ticket. Take the N Judah line to 9th and Irving and walk north on 9th Avenue into the Golden Gate Park. Continue north on Martin Luther King Jr Drive and take a right on Music Concourse Drive to the de Young Museum building on your left.

 

Contemporary Jewish Museum

  • The CJM is a non-collecting institution that partners with national and international cultural institutions to present exhibitions that are both timely and relevant.
  • Admission fee: $14.00 USD, $12.00 USD for seniors (65+)
  • You can take BART into San Francisco and stop at Montgomery Street BART Station. The museum is located a block and a half away at 736 Mission Street.
